Brazilian White Rice (Pressure Cooker)

More than any other dish, Brazilian white rice is the most common dish. Rice is the ultimate comfort food — and the easiest recipe to prepare. It’s perfect for beginners! Paired it with black beans and farofa, you’ve got the most classic Brazilian meal.

This will be fluffiest rice you’ve ever had.

This recipe requires an electric pressure cooker. I use a Crockpot Express. Find the ingredients listed below, and watch the video for instructions.

Let’s get cooking.

TIME: 30 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of white rice (long-grain)
  • 1 1/4 cups of water
  • 1 tbsp of canola oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp of salt

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Rinse the rice and let it dry for 15 minutes.
  2. While you wait, mince or grate the garlic.
  3. Set your pressure cooker to brown/sauté. Add the canola oil and let it get hot.
  4. Add the garlic, mix it with the canola oil, and let it toast to a light brown. Add the rice and continue to stir. Let the rice sit with the oil and the garlic for a couple of minutes and stir again from time to time. Add the water and salt. Stir again.
  5. Cover the pressure cooker, lock pressure vault and cook in high pressure for 12 minutes. (This is standard for a Crockpot Express, but make sure you know the correct settings if you’re using another brand.)
  6. After the 12 minutes and the pressure has been realized, it’s ready to be served. Enjoy!
